MATERNITY + NEWBORN + FAMILY SESSIONS

◆    ◆    ◆

Whether it be a maternity, newborn or family session, we are very excited to capture some magical photos of you during this special time in your lives!  Please read our guide below to see what our shoots are all about and to hopefully answer any questions you may have...

•    •    •

RATES
Our pricing is simple.  Rather than charging you a session fee and then having you spend $800+ on the actual images later, we charge one flat rate and you get all of the edited selects that represent the entire shoot.  Our price may seem a little higher than other Photographers at first glance, but because you are getting all of the images, it is a much better deal.  We just can't bare holding your images hostage and not giving you everything that we know you'll love!

Depending on you desired shoot dates and location, you may choose to work with Khaki (NYC + Nashville) Jonica (NYC) or Sarina (LA).  We all have years of experience working with babies and families so you are in great hands!

All sessions includes an edit of 75-100 hi-res edited digital images (JPGs) via download with the right to print and distribute + an online gallery to share with friends and family with print options.  All images are delivered within 3-4 weeks of the shoot date.

MATERNITY SESSION

There is nothing more amazing and special than this little human growing inside of you!  We are so honored to capture some photos of this magic that is happening!! For the shoot, we will come to the comfort of your own home for some of those more intimate belly shots (depending on your comfort level)...  then we can head outside for some fun neighborhood/ street shots or any other locations you're interested in!  The shoot usually lasts anywhere from 1-2 hours, depending on your choice of location(s) and changes of dress.

When: Everyone is different so ideal shoot times may vary, but we recommend scheduling your maternity photos once your belly has really popped.  But generally between 32-36 weeks is a good time.

What to wear: For the more intimate shots, we usually recommend picking up something special for the shoot - like a neutral or black bra and underwear set and/ or a silk robe or slip.  If your style is a little more fun, go with a colorful print... above all this if YOUR shoot, so choose something that fits your style.  Just be aware of the backdrop and make sure the color/ style won't clash. If you're not comfortable baring your belly, just pick out a simple tight fitting solid tank top with undies or a form fitting dress.
For the outdoor shots, we recommend picking out a form fitting dress or something flowy that will accentuate your belly.  Nothing is off limits although bright white can look blown out in the harsh sunlight.

Tidy Up: We ask that you try to tidy up your home a bit prior to the shoot, or at least a few spaces like your bedroom (as we often use this spot) and also the area around the windows. We love natural light! Of course we can also re-arrange as needed upon arrival as well.

NEWBORN SESSION

For the shoot, we will come to the comfort of your own home or any location of your choice (as soon as you are ready), to capture those amazing little toes and sleepy eyes before your your baby grows right before your eyes (it happens so quickly)!  The shoot can last as little as 45 minutes to 1.5 hours depending on your baby's needs.  We are very understanding when it comes to the baby's needs, so if he/she is fussy we will encourage feeding breaks or that you rock and hold them.  We love documenting these special moments as well!

When: There is a big difference between scheduling your newborn shoot at 5 days old and 5 weeks old.  Both are wonderful and amazing times, but we just want you to know what to expect.  Between 5-7 days is best if you want those sleepy eyed, curled up baby shots.   At 4-6 weeks, your baby will be more alert and have a little more control of their body.  Their skin will be a little less translucent/ flaky and their face will be more filled out.  They may be more expressive and have more smiles at this point.  You can choose which time you'd like to capture more!  And of course you can always decide this when the baby is born
We recommend scheduling newborn shoots in the morning as this is usually when baby is happiest!
Here are some sample shoots at:

1-2 weeks old
4 weeks old

In Preparation for the shoot:
Be sure and nurse or feed your baby right before the shoot.  You can even do this just as we arrive while we are scoping out the scene for good backdrops/ lighting.
Pick out a couple of different outfits/ swaddling and blanket options for the baby, and of course we can get some cute bare skin shots too.  We usually only ask that you change the baby's clothes once so he/she doesn't get too fussy.  Simple patterns and neutral colors usually look best. Feel free to incorporate any other special items in the shoot, like something you had when you were a baby that has been passed down or special hand-made gifts from family members, etc.
We always encourage parents be in the photos as well, so be mindful of your appearance and attire too.  At this age, some of our favorite shots are of you holding and snuggling your baby!  You can dress up or dress down, just make sure you're comfortable and that you're not clashing with your environment, your partner or baby.  If you're unsure, simple is usually best! We can also help wardrobe upon arrival!

FAMILY SESSION

We typically like to come to your home to begin photographs for family shoots!  It gives us such an intimate glimpse into your lives and your vibe as a family and we want to photograph that.  We want to capture your kids as they play in their natural environment, as opposed to an impersonal, sterile studio. Everyone has fond memories of the place where they built their family, so why not document that? And afterwards we can head out in the neighborhood for some outdoor street or park photos.

We prefer letting your kids play rather asking them to pose for every photo, so we ask parents to not worry too much about what their kids are doing and let the photographer take the lead. Of course we will get a couple of family pictures with everyone looking at the camera and smiling, but we love the shots of everyone just having fun and being in the moment! Please keep the bribes to a minimum and try to refrain from jumping in or scolding your children if they aren't looking at the camera.  We find the best results happens when parents aren't being too forceful.

In preparation for the shoot: We ask that you try to tidy up your home a bit prior to the shoot, or at least a few spaces like the living room or kids room and also areas around the windows. We love natural light! Of course we can also re-arrange as needed upon arrival as well.
What to wear:
You can dress up or dress down, just make sure you're comfortable and that you're not clashing with one another. Above all this if YOUR shoot, so choose something that fits your style. If you're unsure, simple is usually best!  Nothing is off limits although bright white can look blown out in the harsh sunlight.

How We Work

Style:
Our style is definitely more "lifestyle" meaning capturing you and your family in your own environment... giving direction to evoke more natural poses, without trying anything too staged or forced.  We love to use window-light (natural light is always the most flattering) and nice, clean open spaces in your apartment.
One reason we like shooting in your home is to incorporate your style and vibe into the shoot so it is unique to you ;) If you're looking for a studio type shoot with artificial lighting, you may want to search for a studio photographer.

Retouching: Since our style is very natural, we don't do a lot of retouching. We can take out blemishes and retouch small things out of your photos, but this is considered 'beauty retouching' and is an additional fee.

Thank you!!

We look forward to working with you!  Please email us at khaki@khakibedfordphoto.com for any other questions.
